Kashmir & Carpets: Kashmir or the Heaven on Earth is the Jewel in the Crown (Himalayas) of India or Bharat. It is a mixture of the best, pristine and hospitality. When it comes to hospitality, Kashmiris and their culture are so intricately bound and woven with love and warmth; that hardly anyone can beat them.

Carpet Vs Rugs: Carpets are made up by tying the shorter lengths of thread or yarn, which are then used to form chains, that makes the pile of a Carpet. Rug doesn’t have that much inner work.

In local language, it is called Kal Baffi or Hand Knotted Carpets. It can have from 200 to 900 Knots per sq inch.

This a vibrant hand-woven portrait of Kashmiri Valley. It shows various flowers, birds (7 types) and one big centrepiece. Kashmir is usually covered in snow and they only get a few months of Greenery, Flowers, Birds and Colours.

This carpet captures it all, so that even when times change; your masterpiece stays with you!

If you look closely, the centre piece resembles a Happy Mountain and A Yogi. Kashmir has been a place for meditation via bliss from Mother nature.

Motifs: It is a way of capturing natural beauty into art via drawing or weaving it. This piece has Chinaar, Ishafan, Tabriz and Ardekan Motifs. It also has Oriental Floral designs (Persian).

Story of the Artisans: The art of creating Kashmiri Carpets and Rugs is just 500 years old. It was brought in by Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin, around 1500 century; by bringing in craftsmen from Persia and Central Asia to train the Locals.

In just 500+ years, they perfected it by refining and improving it; generation upon generation, so much so that now all over the world Kashmiri Carpet is most renowned and sought after!
